| Dr. Ted Hong, Beyondbond's
President and CEO, has invited Economics Nobel Prize Winner,
Robert Engle, to participate in a road show covering parts
of Taiwan and Mainland China. Beginning November 27th,
Dr. Engle kicked off the trip with a keynote speech during
the 25th anniversary celebration of the Taiwan Academy
of Banking and Finance. The audience consisted of prominent
members of the business community and academic field,
as well as local authorities. During his visit in Taiwan,
Dr. Engle met with the President of R.O.C., Mr. Chen Shui-bian
and exchanged opinions on cross-strait trade issues and
major economic challenges facing Taiwan's economy. These
included: the impact of the appreciation of the renminbi
with respect to other currencies; the effects of the introduction
of foreign capital and the continuing of management control
over Chinese state-owned banks; the impact of the movement
of "hot money" in and out of the Taiwan economy,
particularly that of an influx of capital on the Taiwan
stock market; and aspects regarding Taiwan's second-phase
financial reform. |
